Tweetdeck On Ubuntu

January 22nd, 2009 Brett Reilly Comments off

If you have tried to install Tweetdeck on Ubuntu it can be hell if you don’t know it puts the link in the accessories folder and you also need to use Adobe Air to install Tweetdeck, though it wouldn’t do it without errors on 8.04 it worked perfectly on 8.10.

The fact that it works so smoothly though not effeciently as you would like, I found it holds up processor time when the Ubuntu loads up from suspend or hibernate but other than that I have found no problem at all.

This is how easy it was.

Step 1. Download Adobe Air + Tweetdeck.
Step 2. Unzip and open folder, click on install.
Step 3. Follow instructions.
Step 4. Setup Tweetdeck with your Twitter account details.

Easy.

Joomla

February 3rd, 2006 Brett Reilly 1 comment

The Joomla! content management system has got to be the easiest most efficient CMS around written in php and it’s open source and anyone can use it, it is that simple, so lets take a look at how it all works.

What can you use it for?

You can use it for-
A content management system.
A blog.
A News site.
An E-Zine.
And Joomla! can do much much more!

    Sections, catergories and items

Its easy to create content, all you have to do is create a section for your content-
For example:
You want to create an E-zine first you want to create a section for gossip you would first create a name for Gossip under sections.

Then you would create a catergories under that section for technology, easy isn’t it?

Then all you do then is add your gossip items under that by naming your first item ebooks DRM to disable copying of more than one page at a time or a shorter title so you can find it again, :) and then all you have to do then is create a menu.

    Creating Menus

This is even easier though be careful watch the submenu part.
3 easy steps.
for example:

select the main menu from the menu drop down

select what menu type you want for this one we will select the table – catergory click next

Then we want to name it Gossip Column since we made the gossip catergory earlier and ten select the appriate catergori in the menu below, there many other things you can do to set this up but we will keep it basic, play with all the settings and see what they do. and click save.

now take a look at the front page wow a ne menu item, couldn’t be any easier could it?

Adding a sub menu to what we just made.

Exactly same process though this time we want to select the content item to add to the catergory for you main page.

There are thousand of addons for joomla, you can add in an image gallery and some great seo tools that will help you gain an advantage on search engines, joomla! also has loads of templates to choose from take a look at Joomlaya with hundreds of templates to choose from you will have your site looking brilliant, there are also documents on how to build your own templates if your game and you know php and css and xml it’s fairly basic to build one for your self.

Well that was the basics there is more documentation on the Joomla! website so take a look and be impressed.

One other thing that Joomla! has is a great support forum there are people there to help you on your way to build a great Web site using Joomla!
