Global Warming Has Hit Victoria

January 28th, 2009 Brett Reilly Comments off

Today it hit 42.9 degrees Celsius in Melbourne yesterday was 35.6c, but the next three days we are going to hit the same temps, 5 days of over 35c degrees, tomorrow is tipped to reach 43c and then 40c and 40c again, is this a sign we should fear the warming pattern.

Most likely not as this happen just over 100 years ago and back then they didn’t have air conditioning, though the beer was cheaper.

I went out to check the mail box and could only hear a few cars out and some sirens, everyone is inside most probably sweating or in the air-con, nice and cool, my little air-con is struggling to push the air out.

Tweetdeck On Ubuntu

January 22nd, 2009 Brett Reilly Comments off

If you have tried to install Tweetdeck on Ubuntu it can be hell if you don’t know it puts the link in the accessories folder and you also need to use Adobe Air to install Tweetdeck, though it wouldn’t do it without errors on 8.04 it worked perfectly on 8.10.

The fact that it works so smoothly though not effeciently as you would like, I found it holds up processor time when the Ubuntu loads up from suspend or hibernate but other than that I have found no problem at all.

This is how easy it was.

Step 1. Download Adobe Air + Tweetdeck.
Step 2. Unzip and open folder, click on install.
Step 3. Follow instructions.
Step 4. Setup Tweetdeck with your Twitter account details.

Easy.

Tom Kenyon – Golden Orb

January 22nd, 2009 Brett Reilly Comments off

WOW!!!! This has gotta to be the best one so far, on the same level as the Transformation, the Golden orb is a Taoist healing meditation where you use a golden ball by focusing your awareness to the points guided.

All I can say is get it and be healed this just makes my entire body tingle, I shouldn’t be listening to it while writing this but I thought it would help me describe it better, check out tomkenyon.com today.

Ubuntu 8.10

January 13th, 2009 Brett Reilly Comments off

I have been using Ubuntu for just over 2 months now and have found it to be much easier and more reliable than windows, though with some research I have found that people have different opinions (I know), it seems to be the hardware and software mix that truly shows the reliability. The first ever time I used Linux was Redhat 2.0 I still have the disc somewhere, it was a nightmare as I was not a command line type of person, still not I actually like automation.

But what I want to say here is Ubuntu is the best Linux distribution I have ever tried, previously my favourite was Suse,  the ease of use that Ubuntu brings and also the style the ability to change the look and feel as well have access to a mass of programs in the synaptic’s library is just amazing.

There is only one problem which I can live without, that is my Microsoft Windows compatible USB digital TV tuner does not work with any program, I found the driver for it and it appears to be active, but when 3 of the programs I have tried cannot locate device I wonder but one METV found it and recognized it but it fails in one most important area, once you go through the config at start up it believes that is the be all and end all of the config and no way of changing the settings because I was using a small aerial.

The software especially the games are simple and fun, play tuxcart, billiards and a lot of clone games such as Gnometris a Tetris clone, so you have some games while your waiting for your email to download or just passing the time, you have all the tools you need to accomplish just about everything, adding and removing programs with ease.

Try it today, you can also dual boot with windows, but after a few days you will think why bother, Ubuntu Linux will do nearly anything you want it to do all you have to do is follow instructions and have fun.

I am  serously thinking of going full Ubuntu and removing everything Microsoft in the future.

Update January 2009

January 10th, 2009 Brett Reilly Comments off

Just realized its been 2 months since the last update, I had a great Christmas and new years was a few quite drinks down the pub and a couple of pain killers, Other than that nothing much new.
I have had Ubuntu Linux on the laptop for just over a month now and it is a beautiful peace of work, other than a few hiccups all is working fine and Ubuntu is seamless with installing software not like the older versions of Linux were it was all command line stuff, which I have never liked even back in the old DOS days.

Still haven’t got my car fixed yet no big deal, the weather has been great except for a week in early December when it rained everyday, but we do need it.
